Flight VN9411 departed from Seoul, with some 200 passengers on board.
Aside from the newly launched Seoul-Van Don route, the national flag carrier is looking into the possibility of launching more routes linking the newly built Van Don airport with many more local and international destinations. The plan is among the highlights of an agreement between the airline and the provincial government.
Earlier, the airport received its first commercial flight on December 30 last year, operated by VNA on the HCMC-Quang Ninh route. After nearly six months of operating seven daily flights on this route, VNA has transported almost 40,000 passengers to and from the airport.
Since the airport’s debut, a total of some 95,000 passengers have passed through it, equivalent to 750 flights.
VNA’s flights to and from the airport are expected to attract some 15 million tourists, including seven million foreigners, to Quang Ninh by 2020 and up to 30 million arrivals by 2030, enabling the northern province to realize its target of developing the tourism sector into a driving force for the provincial economy.
