The index fell by a slight 0.41 point, or 0.04%, to 957.56, with 152 gainers and 144 losers. The southern bourse saw over 145 million shares changing hands, with the total value exceeding VND3.3 trillion, down 6.6% and up 2%, respectively. The number of shares traded in block deals reached 24 million, worth VND935 billion.
Among the top ten stocks, five jumped at the close and four tumbled. Meanwhile, lender BID remained unchanged. Notably, housing developer VHM was the biggest loser, down 1.24% at VND87,900, followed by lender VCB with a 1.06% decrease at VND65,600 per share.
Also, liquidity of these ten caps remained average. Only three stocks, including two lenders VCB and TCB, and retailer VRE, saw over one million shares traded each.
Further, insurer BVH surged by 5.6% at the intraday high of VND77,000, with 860,000 shares changing hands, making it the best performer among blue chips today. The insurer BVH bounced back after it plunged for the sixth straight session.
In contrast, lender HDB declined strongly by 4.4% at VND26,100 with over 1.8 million shares traded. Other poor performers included electricity company POW, real estate firms NVL and ROS.
Especially, on the first trading day of the HCMC market, national flag carrier HVN slid a slight 0.25% at VND40,500 per share, compared to its reference price of VND40,600, even though there was time the carrier rose by almost 5% in the session. Closing the session, there were more than 1.25 million HVN shares transacted.
Meanwhile, the performance of the HNX-Index in the northern stock market was unnoticeable in much of the session. However, the index increased strongly in the end, mainly supported by gas firm PVS and building material firm VGC.
The gas firm PVS surged 2.2% at VND23,000, while the other good performer, VGC, inched up 3.5% at VND20,700. Apart from that, lender ACB, railway operator VNR, and securities firm SHS also sent the index up, by gaining 0.3%, 7.3%, and 1.7%, respectively.
The HN-Index at the close rose 0.41 point, or 0.39%, at 105.83. Over 28 million shares were traded in total, worth over VND330 billion. Of these, some 22 million shares were transacted in block deals, making up VND224 billion of the total, including 4.3 million shares of lender NVB which were worth some VND180 billion.
