Nguyen Lam Thanh, head of policy at TikTok Vietnam, said at the launch that by early 2019, the company had had over 1,000 content creators based in Vietnam, including original creators, artists, influencers and content powerhouses. TikTok expects to triple the number of creators to 3,000 by the end of the year.
The video platform announced plans to enter a strategic partnership with Vietnam Television Cable Corporation (VTVCab), an arm of Vietnam Television (VTV), to promote local creativity and content.
VTVCab is among the top content production powerhouses in Vietnam, offering a variety of programs, spanning the genres of travel, e-sports, culinary arts, comedy and music. With this partnership, TikTok hopes to bring these categories of content onto the platform and make them accessible to its users.
Globally launched in 2016, TikTok has operations in over 150 markets so far.
Vietnam is now among the top 10 markets in which TikTok has established a strong local presence. To date, TikTok’s platform has been used by over 12 million active local users per month in Vietnam.
TikTok in April announced its intent to partner with the Danang Promotion Tourism Center in showcasing local destinations through short videos to gauge the interest of local and international tourists in traveling to Danang.
Early this year, TikTok partnered with Vietnam’s national television station VTV to promote Tao Quan, a hit comedy-variety TV series that aired on New Year’s Eve.
