With losers outnumbering gainers by 214 to 74, the VN-Index lost 9.8 points, or 1.01%, at 962.3 points.
Trade on the southern market slid 14% against a day earlier to 160.39 million shares worth VND3.2 trillion, down 24%. There were 23.2 million shares worth VND462 billion traded in block deals.
Among the 10 blue-chips, only dairy firm VNM edged up a slight 0.15% at VND135,200 and retailer VRE gained 0.89% at VND34,800. Lender BID closed at its reference price of VND34,800.
The remainder ended lower. Property giant VIC inched down 0.91% at VND109,000 and its subsidiary VHM lost 0.89% at VND89,000, with 0.89 million and 0.61 million shares traded.
Beverage giant SAB tumbled 6.4% to its lowest level of the day, VND231,000. In addition, consumer goods producer MSN slid 2.27% at VND86,000, lender TCB plummeted 2.02% at VND24,250, and gas distributor GAS plunged 1.12% at VND105,600.
Moreover, lender CTG lost 2.1% at VND21,000. The stock saw its matching volume totaling 3.8 million shares. Electricity firm POW as well as lenders HDB and STB also declined more than 1%.
Construction firm ROS continued taking the lead by liquidity with 10 million shares changing hands. Lender MBB also had good liquidity with 3.9 million share matched.
Plastics stock AAA, which closed at its reference price the day earlier, continued inching down 1.11% today, at VND17,800, with 6.48 million shares transacted. Property firm FLC also slipped 2.2% at VND4,890 with matching volume reaching 6.62 shares.
Meanwhile, rubber producer VHG grew to VND1,710, its 21st straight daily rise, with 1.4 million shares traded.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index edged 0.64% lower at 105.75. The market saw 15.62 million shares worth VND249 billion traded in the afternoon session, down 18.6% in volume and 37.8% in value. In block deals, 1.6 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND34 billion.
Among 10 big-cap stocks on the northern bourse, both construction firm VCG and industrial enterprise VCS picked up 1.92% at VND26,500 and VND63,900. Lender SHB ended at its reference price of VND7,400.
The remainder closed the session lower. Particularly, detergent and chemical firm DGC, building material firm VGC and petroleum technical service firm PVS dipped 5.28%, 2.56% and 2.19% at VND35,900, VND19,000 and VND22,300.
The best performer by liquidity on this market was PVS with more than four million shares matched, followed by SHB with 2.98 million shares.
