Japan’s Sojitz Corporation has acquired 95.24 per cent of common shares in the Saigon Paper Corporation (SGP), one of Vietnam’s largest paper manufacturers, marking its entry into Vietnam’s household paper and container board manufacturing business.
According to Sojitz, SGP is Vietnam’s leading manufacturer of household paper products, which include tissues, toilet paper, and paper napkins. The company’s top brands, such as “Bless You” and “Saigon”, are widely recognized and trusted throughout the country for their high quality. The company also boasts top-class production capacity in the industrial paper sector, supplying containerboard to manufacturers of cardboard boxes, paper plates, and cardboard tubes.
Approximately 60 per cent of old paper used as raw materials for SGP’s container board is obtained through the company’s own paper recycling centers, reducing the business’s impact on the environment through the sustainable reuse of paper.
GDP growth in Vietnam has averaged over 6 per cent per annum over the last five years. As the country’s economy steadily expands and makes way for more modern lifestyles and modernized distribution and retail techniques, demand is growing for household paper products such as tissues as well as containerboard used in packaging.
Sojitz has a long history of contributing to Vietnam’s development in various business sectors, such as afforestation and farming, manufacturing, and consumer goods. Capitalizing on its experience in Vietnam and international business know-how, it will work to strengthen SGP’s manufacturing infrastructure for household paper and container board to meet the increasing demand for paper products in Vietnam as the country modernizes, enhancing the lives of Vietnamese consumers.
