The benchmark VN Index lost 3.41 points, or 0.83% to end at 405.19. Volume fell 18.6% to 24.3 million shares worth VND502.5 billion including 7.2 million shares worth VND271.2 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.
VN Index opened in the green with 0.8 million shares traded but the green color could not last long on increasing selling pressure. Both buyers and sellers were cautious, trading was sluggish and sellers became more aggressive, accepting to offload shares at a discount. VN Index closed near the intra-day low.
The news that Vinashin was brought to the course weighed local market sentiment.
Market breadth was negative, among 305 listed firms on HOSE, losers outweighed gainers by 139-74 and 70 stocks unchanged and the rest untraded. As many as 36 stocks fell to the floor while 23 issues hit the ceiling, 5% each side.
Among top 10 market caps, 8 fell (BVH, HAG, STB, MSN, VCB, STB, VIC, VNM) , and 2 unchanged (CTG,VPL).
Property stocks still showed weaknesses, DIC, DIG, HAG, ITA, KBC, SJS posted concerted fall. Bank shares were also weak, only CTG stayed in the neutral line, VCB, STB, MBB fell.
The spotlight in the market today was OGC with the news of dividend payment at 1-for-5 ratio and this November 17 as ex-date.
Hoang Quan Consulting – Trading – Service Real Estate Corporation (HQC) was the most active stock with 1.8 million shares traded, closing down 4.4% to VND8,800.
Becamex Infrastructure Development JSC. (IJC) was in the second place with nearly 0.7 million shares traded, closing up 1% to VND10,200.
Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB) ranked third with 0.7 million shares traded, closing down 3.3% to VND11,600.
Ocean Group JSC. (OGC) stayed in the fourth place with 0.5 million shares traded, closing up 2.6% to VND11,700.
Pha Lai Thermal Power JSC. (PPC) was the last in the most active list with 0.5 million shares traded, closing up 1.5% to VND6,800.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX set fresh all time low with a loss of 0.53 point or 0.8% to 64.6. Trading volume rose 0.8% to 24.8 million shares traded for VND255.8 billion of which 4.5 million shares worth VND48.7 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.
Of note SHB saw a jumbo deal of 1.92 million shares changed hands for VND12.67 billion in the put-through trade.
Market breadth was negative with 83 gainers, 116 losers and 84 flat issues and 110 untraded. Among top 10 market caps, 4 gained, 1 lost and 5 unchanged.
Bucking the trend was ACB, the biggest market cap stock on the bourse, adding 0.5% to close at VND20,000 on average.
High liquid shares KLS, VND, PVX, VCG, SHN were all slight losers today.
Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) was the most active stock with 2.7 million shares traded, closing flat at VND10,200 on average.
VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) came second with 1.6 million shares traded, closing flat at VND10,200 on average.
PetroVietnam Power Land Joint Stock Company ranked third in the list with 1.4 million shares traded, closing down 1% to VND10,200 on average.
