Put-through deals continued to be very active. We saw 2 million STB shares changed hands today and another 2.1 million MCG were traded in the put-through deals, too. Last week, foreigners net sold VND162 billion worth of STB shares, higher than net selling of the whole year -to -last week of VND148 billion.
Market talks mentioned the hope for lower deposit interest rate due to slowing down CPI. Commencing on this, Marc Djandji, director of Research Department, VietCapital Securities wrote “we believe that it is too early to lower the deposit rate cap when dong liquidity within the banking system is still tight and risks to the exchange rate remain.”
However, the hope for gas price cut was faded as the Ministry of Finance today requested petrol wholesalers not to raise fuel prices and the ministry will increase compensation from stabilization fund to cover their losses.
Back to the market, VN Index opened in the green with 0.9 million shares traded. However, demand was not very strong while selling pressure persisted, sending the market gradually to the south and entered the negative territory in late trading. The market closed with loss as blue chips were sold.
Market breadth was still positive, among 306 listed firms on HOSE, gainers outweighed losers by 158-75 and 42 stocks unchanged and the rest untraded. As many as 54 stocks hit ceiling while 33 issues fell to the floor, 5% each side.
Among top 10 market caps, 3 rose (HAG, VIC, VPL,), 7 fell (STB, VNM, BVH, MSN, CTG, VCB, EIB,)
Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank or Sacombank (STB) led the market in volume with 2 million shares traded, closing down 2% to VND14,300.
Tan Tao Investment – Industry Corporation (ITA) was second most active stock with 1.4 million shares trade, closing up 2.7% to VND7,500.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) ranked third with 1.1 million shares traded, closing up 1.2% to VND16,400.
Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB) came forth with 1.1 million shares traded, closing up 2.4% to VND12,600.
Becamex Infrastructure Development JSC. (IJC) was in the fifth place with 1 million shares traded, closing up 4.2% to VND9,900.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX bucked trend to close up 0.76 point or 1.2% to 61.91. Trading volume rose 63.5% to 31.4 million shares traded for VND286.7 billion of which 2.2 million shares worth VND24.5 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.
Market breadth was positive with 173 gainers, 71 losers and 50 flat issues and 99 untraded. Among top 10 market caps, 7 gained and 3 unchanged.
High liquid and speculative shares KLS, VND, PVX, VCG were all gainers.
Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) was the most active stock with 4.4 million shares changed hands, closing up 5.1% to VND10,300.
VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) came second with 3.7 million shares traded, closing up 6.1% to VND10,400 on average.
Wall Street Securities JSC (WSS) ranked third in the list with 2.2 million shares traded, closing up 2.1% to VND4,700 on average.
