The benchmark VN Index added 2.62 points, or 0.69% to end at 381.76. Volume soared 52.2% to 32.3 million shares worth VND474.5 billion including 9.8 million shares worth VND183.9 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.
VN Index opened in the red with 0.8 million shares traded. However, bargain hunters emerged later and send the index into the positive ground in the continuous trading sessions. Demand of blue chips was high, and kept the heat until the last minutes. VN Index closed at the high of the day.
Market breadth turned positive, among 305 listed firms on HOSE, gainers outweighed losers by 126-88 and 63 stocks unchanged and the rest untraded. As many as 29 stocks hit ceiling while 36 issues fell to the floor, 5% each side.
Among top 10 market caps, 6 rose (STB, BVH, VCB, VPL,EIB, VIC) , 1 fell (MSN) and 3 unchanged (CTG, VNM, HAG).
Bank shares led the market up, MBB hit ceiling at a time during the trading hours, STB was firm above the neutral line, EIB gained, CTG stayed unchanged.
Property shares pared the losses, HAG, NTL, ITA, KBC stayed in the neutral line, DIC, ITC, SJS gained but DXG, DIG lost.
Top active stocks Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank or Sacombank (STB), Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB), Ocean Group JSC. (OGC) were all related to banks.
STB led the market in volume with 3.1 millions shares traded, closing up 0.7% to VND15, 500.
MBB was second most active stock with 1.1 million shares trade, closing up 3.2% to VND12,800.
OGC ranked third with 1 million shares traded, closing down 2.4% to VND8,100.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX closed up 0.06 point or 0.09% to 61.74. Trading volume rose 27.8% to 23.2 million shares traded for VND217.5 billion of which 3.3 million shares worth VND45.9 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.
Market breadth was negative with 67 gainers, 147 losers and 70 flat issues and 109 untraded. Among top 10 market caps, 1 gained 3 lost and 6 unchanged.
High liquid and speculative shares KLS, VND, PVX, VCG were all unchanged.
VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) was the most active stock with 2.4 million shares changed hands, closing unchanged at VND9,600.
Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) came second with 2.3 million shares traded, closing unchanged at VND9,700 on average.
PetroVietnam Power Land Joint Stock Company (PVX) ranked third in the list with 1.2 million shares traded, closing unchanged at VND9,000 on average.
