VN Index opened in the red with 1.1 million shares traded, trading was sluggish and sellers were aggressive players. Losses were seen across the board. Buying interest rose a bit at the last 15 ATC session helping the VN Index to close off the low.
Weighing the local market sentiment is plunge of global market last night and in Asia this morning on concerns over Euro zone fears.
Market breadth was negative, among 305 listed firms on HOSE, losers outweighed gainers by 175-36 and 66 stocks unchanged and the rest untraded. As many as 65 stocks fell to the floor while 8 issues hit the ceiling, 5% each side.
Among top 10 market caps, 1 rose (STB), 5 fell (HAG, VCB, STB, CTG, VNM), and 4 unchanged (BVH, EIB, MSN, VIC).
Market spot lights today were Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB) which bucked the trend to manage hitting ceiling at a time in the trading session before paring some gain at the close, settling up 1.7% at VND11,800, after 7 consecutive losing sessions since debut.
Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank or Sacombank (STB) also gained on news that the lender will buy back 100 million shares.
Other bank stocks were weak, CTG, VCB lost, EIB unchanged.
On the downside, Hoa Phat Group JSC. (HPG) marked its 9 consecutive losing sessions today with a total loss of 22.3%.
Other outstanding losers were ; DIG, ITC, SJS, SAM, SBS, VNE, VES.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX set fresh all time low with a loss of 0.78 point or 1.21% to 63.82. Trading volume rose 14.5% to 28.4 million shares traded for VND259 billion of which 2 million shares worth VND23.35 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.
Market breadth was negative with 61 gainers, 189 losers and 40 flat issues and 103 untraded. Among top 10 market caps, 1 gained, 7 lost and 2 unchanged.
Bucking the trend was ACB, the biggest market cap stock on the bourse, adding 0.5% to close at VND20,100 on average.
High liquid shares KLS, VND, PVX, VCG still see losses and no sign of recovery yet.
Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) was the most active stock with 2.8 million shares traded, closing down 2% VND10,000 on average.
VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) came second with 2.2 million shares traded, closing down to 3% to VND9,900 on average.
PetroVietnam Power Land Joint Stock Company ranked third in the list with 2.1 million shares traded, closing down 3% to VND9,900 on average.
