Macro economy

• Inflation Set to Hit 19% by End-2011: NA Committee
  Vietnam’s inflation is slowing but it will still hit 19% by the end of the year as one of the world’s highest rates, the National Assembly’s Economic Committee has forecast.

• Vietnam November CPI Expected to Ease to 0.2-0.3%
  Vietnam consumer price index is expected to slow down to 02.-0.3% in November, the domestic market regulation commission said.

• Finance Minister Eases Concerns over Rising Public Debt
  Even though Vietnam‘s public debt is expected to equal 58% of the GDP by next year, Vuong Dinh Hue, Finance Minister said, “this is nothing to worry about.”

• Vietnam Industrial Production’s Stockpiles Up 21% YOY by Oct 1st
  Stockpiles of processing and manufacturing industry are estimated to have surged by 21% year on year by October 1, the General Statistics Officer (GSO) said.

• Industrial Output Creeps Up In October
  The national Index of Industrial Production (IIP) rose by 5.2% in October, helping boost the Index for the first 10 months by 7% over the same period last year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) has reported.

• Vietnam SBV Issues Circular on License Withdrawal and Assets Liquidation of Credit Institutions
  The State Bank of Vietnam, the country’s central bank, issued Circular No.34/2011/TT-NHNN, providing guidance on the procedures to withdraw licenses and liquidate the assets of credit institutions on Oct 28, effective on December 11, 2011.

• Vietnam Central Bank Proposes 3 Plans to Restructure the Banking System
  The State Bank of Vietnam, the country’s central bank, said it was finalizing the strategies to restructure the local banking system with three proposed plans, the Saigon Economic Times Online reported on Oct 29.

• Vietnam Economic Reform Faces Crisis Of Confidence
  As Vietnam battles galloping inflation and a plummeting currency, a new challenge has emerged — a general collapse of confidence in the state’s ability to heal the ailing economy.
