The benchmark VN Index gave up 0.45 point or 0.09% to 487.62. Volume fell 14.5% to 113.9 million shares worth of VND1.83 trillion. Put-through trading contributed 4.1 million shares worth VND88.6 billion. Of note, 1.6 million TIX shares were changed hands in the put-through deal at VND21,000 each.
The market breadth was broadly positive on the primary bourse where 162 stocks advanced, 108 fell, 39 closed unchanged of which 82 hit the ceiling, 26 limited down.
The VN30 Index still gained 0.33 point, or 0.06%, to 557.35 with 26.6 million shares changed hands for VND639 billion.
The market opened in the green with 7 million shares changed hands. The trading pace was still fast however, the caution rose. The index swung between up and down area before closing the morning with gain. However, selling, especially into blue chips, resumed in the afternoon session, and the losses of heavy weighs BVH, MSN, VIC and blue chips PVD, MBB, KBC, HPG, CTG, FPT, DPM sent the index into the negative territory at the close despite strong gains of high beta and penny stocks.
In the market today, hot stocks, pennies to blue chips were mostly ceiling gainers.
However, banking shares were mixed, STB continued to limit up, VCB gaiend but MBB, EIB, CTG eased.
Property shares fell in early trade but bounded back at the close, most shares gained, NTL hit the ceiling.
Mineral shares continued to be dumped at the floor prices, rubber shares weakened except for CSM that extended ceiling performance.
Vietnam Electricity Construction Joint Stock Corporation (VNE), the most active stock on a trade of 5.4 million shares, rose 2.27% to end at VND9,000.
Fourth largest listed lender Sacombank (STB), coming second in liquidity with 3.5 million shares changed hands, surged 4.86% to settle at VND25,900.
Hoang Quan Consulting Trading Service Real Estate Corporation (HQC) leaped 4.35% to finish at VND7,200 on a trade of 3.45 million units – the third most active.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX edged up 0.12 point or 0.14% to 83.64. Trading volume fell 30% to 86.5 million shares worth VND986 billion.
The market breadth was still positive on the primary bourse where 176 stocks advanced, 166 fell, 54 closed unchanged of which74 hit the ceiling, 22 limited down.
Hanoi-based lender Habubank (HBB), the most active on the measure with 5.2 million shares changed hands, slid 3% to end at VND6,500. Today MB Securities ( formerly known as TLS) announced to stop providing margin to purchase HBB shares from May 11.
Sai Gon Thuong Tin Real Estate Joint Stock Company (SCR), coming second in liquidity on a trade of 4.2 million units, closed flat at VND15,800 per share.
VNDirect Securities (VND) shed 2.17% to settle at VND13,500 on a trade of 4.2 million shares – the third most active.
