The benchmark VN Index rose 5.21 points or 1.07% to 491.52. Volume rose to 92.2 million shares worth VND1.59 trillion.
The market breadth was broadly positive on the primary bourse where 190 stocks advanced, 76 fell, 43 closed unchanged of which 100 hit the ceiling, 8 limited down.
The VN30 Index rose faster than the broader market, posting a gain of 8.09 points, or 1.46%, to 560.39 with 26.7 million shares changed hands for VND579 billion.
The market opened in the green with 6.1 million shares changed hands. The trading pace was steady, and buying was in general aggressive despite some profit taking into hot stocks seen. Buyers became more aggressive in late morning trading, sending the index higher.
The most notable trading today was the soaring of banking stocks led by STB and MBB which limited up with high demand.
Petro group stocks continued to outperform, most of shares in this group limited up.
Mineral stocks continued to be taken profit and share prices fell.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX extended gain, adding 1 point to 84.78. Trading volume eased a bit to 71 million shares worth VND789.9 billion.
