May 22: Vietnam Stocks Resume Losing String, GAS Hits Ceiling

The benchmark VN Index lost 0.08 points or 0.01% to 447.94. Volume improved to 84.4 million shares worth of VND1.53 trillion.  Put-through trading contributed 23.9 million shares worth VND609.66 billion.

 We saw another 15 million STB shares changed hands at the price of VN25,000 each, versus the market current  price of VND25,200 each.

The market breadth was negative on the primary bourse where 122 stocks advanced, 137 tumbled, 50 closed unchanged.

The VN30 Index lost 2 points, or 0.39%, to 51.86.

The market opened in the green as buying momentum extended, however, solid selling pressure calmed the market down, and late selling efforts finally brought the redness today though the market stayed green in most of the trading time. Liquidity stayed high.

Newly listed GAS, which was second heaviest weighed on the bourse, limited up with 1.9 million shares changed hands.

Other heavy weighs VCB, BVH, MSN were losers while VIC climbed up. Market indicator shares such as SSI edged up.

Banking shares, property shares, rubber shares were in general taken profit.

ITA became the most active stock with 4.5 million shares traded, share prices limited up at VND7,900.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX index lost 0.38 point or 0.49% to 76.46. Trading volume eased to 51 million shares worth VND519.52 billion.

The market breadth was negative on the northern exchange. Among index members, 125 rallied, 141 tumbled, 63 closed unmoved.
