May 21: Vietnam Stocks Soar, Ending Losing String

Volume declined to 77.3 million shares worth of VND1.26 trillion, but it was mostly due to lower offer.

Put-through trading contributed 13.5 million shares worth VND240.9 billion.  Of note, 3 million BHS shares were changed hands in the put-through deal at the floor price of VND17,000 each; 4.5 million MBB shares were changed hands at the reference price of VND14,300 each and 1.2 million DPR changed hands at VND15,000.

The market breadth was broadly positive on the primary bourse where advancer outpaced decliners by 5-to-1; ceiling performance was popular.

The VN30 Index gained 14.25 points, or 2.82%, to 518.86. Amongst its 30 members, 19 stocks rallied, 1 plunged..

Share prices surged across the board from the blue chips to the pennies, from defensive to high beta. Today, once more the market showed great and nice rollercoaster ride.

PV Gas (GAS) debuted nearly 1.9 billion shares at the reference price of VND36,000 ($1.71), becoming the second largest share on the southern bourse with a 9%market share on a total capitalisation of VND68.22 trillion ($3.25 billion). With a debut brand of +/-20%; GAS climbed 13.9%, to  at VND41,000 ($2).

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX boundec 3.03 points or 4.11% to 76.84. Trading volume was 45.7 million shares worth VND455.5 billion

The market breadth was very positive, Advancers outstripped decliners by 222-34.
