The benchmark VN Index sled for a third day, losing 5.97 points or 1.23% to 480.1. Volume fell 15.12%to 114.3 million shares worth of VND1.7 trillion.
Put-through trading contributed 3.9 million shares worth VND94.4 billion. Of note, 1.2 million SSI shares were changed hands in the put-through deal at the price of VND24,5000 each versus the market price of VND23,600.
The market breadth was broadly negative on the primary bourse where 73 stocks advanced, 196 fell, 39 closed unchanged.
The VN30 Index lost 6.8 points or 1.23%, to 547.94 with 24.2 million shares changed hands for VND594.2 billion. This is the first time VN30 and VNIndex lost the same percentage in a day.
The market opened in the green with 0.33 million shares changed hands. The trading pace was boring at the beginning as caution rose. The index soon erased all the early gain and fell to the negative territory. This was completely the same trading pattern in the past days: open in the green, close in the red, but today, market closed at the low.
High liquidity also meant that money flows rotated from stocks to stocks, some high-beta ones still limited up today while others fell to the floor.
From morning trade, mineral shares such as KSS, KTB, KSH which saw floor performance in the past days, rebounded with high demand, liquidity soared and share prices limited up. Ru.bber shares were strong again.
The hottest issue was NVT which saw nearly 9 million shares changed hands today, closing at the ceiling level for 9 consecutive days.
However, the comeback of these hot issues could not help other high beta ones such as HQC, ITA,KSA,NTB, PXl,SAM…
Today, steel stocks, which lagged behind the market in the past run, looked stronger than the market, the biggest player HPG managed to close up though it still failed to test VND27,500 resistance.
Banking shares were mixed, VCB were only gainer, CTG, EIB unchanged, MBB, STB lost.
Property shares weakened, NTL, SJS, ITC, ITA, DIC were all losers.
Ninh Van Bay Travel Real Estate Joint Stock Company (NVT), the most active stock on a trade of 8.9 million shares, rose 4.17% to end at VND5,000.
Vietnam Ocean Shipping Joint Stock Company (VOS), coming second in liquidity with 4.4 million shares changed hands, jumped 4.35% to settle at VND4,800.
PetroVietnam Transportation Corporation (PVT) closed flat at VND6,700 on a trade of 3.2 million units – the third most active.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX fell 1.65 points or 1.98% to 81.58. Trading volume eased to 91.8 million shares worth VND992 billion.
The market breadth was negative where 82 stocks advanced, 227 fell, 45 closed unchanged.
Hanoi-based lender Habubank (HBB), the most active on the measure with 4.5 million shares changed hands, slid 1.6% to end at VND6,200.
PetroVietnam Construction (PVX), coming second in liquidity on a trade of 4.5 million units, dipped 1.77% to close at VND11,100 per share.
VNDirect Securities (VND) shed 1.77% to settle at VND13,100 on a trade of 4.44 million shares – the third most active.
