The benchmark VN Index lost 0.98 point or 0.22% to 444. Volume and value fell 34.46% 34% respectively to 101.25 million shares changed hands for VND1.429 trillion, of which put-through trading contributed only 3.3 million shares and VND66.44 billion.
Market resumed the trading with retained selling pressure. However, high risk appetite pared the market loss, helping the index to close off the low.
VN30 recovered faster with a loss 2.51 points or 0.49% to stand at 505.9. Volume was 36.33 million shares worth of VND1.428 trillion.
The market breadth turned positive. Among 308 listed firms on HOSE, gainers outpaced losers by 134-106 and 68 stocks unchanged of which 63 hit upper limit and 31 hit lower limit.
Late yesterday, the governor Nguyen Van Binh said at the Government’s regular meeting that Vietnam will cut deposit interest rate and benchmark interest rate, discount interest rate and refinance interest rate by 1% in the next few days. Market has been waiting for the news and it is not a surprise, however, the decision came out a bit earlier than expectation.
And after trading hour today, the MOF allowed to raise gasoline prices by up to 10.1% (VND2,100 a litter for gasoline RON92). The price hike is not a surprise but the magnitude is higher than market expectation and its impact on CPI is now a concern.
Banks shares were weak today, EIB and STB shares limited down with 9.3 million shares and 3 million shares changed hands, respectively. MBB was very active with 9.6 million shares traded, but the share prices had to close with loss of 2.42%, CTG, VCB managed to close at the neutral line.
Property stocks outperformed today with most familiar names NTL, SJS, ITA, ITC, KBC, TDH and others limited up.
Broker stocks were fairly strong with active players SBS with 4.6 million shares traded, and nearly 2.5 million shares on the queue at the ceiling price, SSI cosed up with 2.22 million shares changed hands.
Electricity producer PPC and VSH continued to post strong performance.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX closed down 0.17 point or 0.22% to 75.03. Trading volume fell 35.5% to 118.1 million shares traded for VND1.05 trillion.
Market breadth stayed negative with 108 gainers, 256 losers and 31 flat issues of which 53 shares limited up while 75 hit the floor.
Bank shares were mixed on the bourse, ACB closed at the floor prices while HBB and SHB stood at the ceiling price, liquidity was good. As many as 27.3 million HBB shares, 11.3 million SHB shares were changed hands. Other active players included PVX with 7.3 million shares, KLS with 6.8 million shares, and VND with 5.9 million shares traded.
On this bourse, property stocks were mixed SD and VC groups saw few gainers today, the most outperform stock is SCR, closing at the ceiling price with a blank on the sell side.
