The benchmark VN Index lost 12.21 points or 2.67% to 445. Volume surged 49.5% to 154.49 million shares changed hands for VND1.82.26 trillion. This is the highest volume in history, breaking the record logged on Oct 23, 2009 with133,489,890 shares traded. Meanwhile, put-through trading saw only 11.26 million shares changed hands.
Market resumed the afternoon session with retained selling pressure. Trading pace was very exciting as liquidity was very good. This time, the bear had a higher hand on the table and market closed at the low of the day. More stocks hit the down limit.
VN30 plunged faster with a loss of 16.53 points or 3.15% to stand at 508.41. Volume rose sharply to 45.86 million worth of VND917.88 billion. It has been the fact that stocks in the VN30 had higher beta than the broader market in general as their share prices both go up and down faster than the market.
The market breadth turned negative. Among 308 listed firms on HOSE, losers outpaced gainers by 157-106 and 45 stocks unchanged of which 51 hit upper limit and only 56 hit lower limit.
Many traders took some money off the table today as their profit target reached and retreat is expected when the rising momentum weakened. However, the demand was still very good.
Most active players were MBB with 15.79 million shares, SBS with 6.5 million shares, EIB with 6.2 million shares, ITA with 5.9 million shares and SSI with 5.67 million shares traded.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX closed down 0.58 point or 0.77% to 75.2. Trading volume hit all time high of 183.12 million shares traded for VND1.653 trillion. The second all-time high trading volume logged on Feb 28, 2012 with 132,812,400 shares traded.
Of note, this was also the first trading session that the Hanoi Stock Exchange saw record volume higher than the HOSE’s record.
Market breadth turned negative with 158 gainers, 183 losers and 54 flat issues of which 80 shares limited up while 37 hit the floor.
Of note, 38.08 million HBB shares were changed hands this morning, 14.4 million VND shares and 10.77 million KLS shares and 8.8 million SHB shares changed hands today.
