The benchmark VN Index lost 9.02 points or 1.97% to 448.19. Volume surged to 125.54 million shares changed hands for VND1.737 trillion. Of note, this is the second highest volume in history, only after 133,489,890 shares traded on Oct 23, 2009. Meanwhile, put-through trading saw only 2.6 million shares changed hands.
Market opened in the green with 8.85 million shares changed hands as selling pressure rose. Trading pace was very exciting when the bulls and the bears tried hard to give much conviction. However, weaknesses in overseas markets helped the bears to win in the morning session and boosted liquidity. The morning session closed off the low but the selling pressure was still going on.
VN30 plunged faster with a loss of 13.82 points or 2.63% to stand at 511.12. Volume rose sharply to 30.0.5 million worth of VND779 billion.
The market breadth turned negative. Among 308 listed firms on HOSE, losers outpaced gainers by 168-90 and 50 stocks unchanged of which 47 hit upper limit and only 36 hit lower limit.
Many traders took some money off the table today as their profit target reached and retreat is expected when the rising momentum weakened. However, the demand was still very good.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX closed down 0.13 point or 0.17% to 75.65. Trading volume hit all time high of 161.12 million shares traded for VND1.449 trillion. The second all-time high trading volume logged on Feb 28, 2012 with 132,812,400 shares traded.
Market breadth turned negative with 154 gainers, 175 losers and 66 flat issues of which 76 shares limited up while 26 hit the floor.
Of note, 36.1 million HBB shares were changed hands this morning, 12.68 million VND shares and 8.44 million SHB shares changed hands today.
