The benchmark VN Index gained 2.59 points, or 0.76% to end at 339.32. Volume roared up 488.7% to 171.2 million shares worth VND2.21 trillion, including 152 million shares worth of VND2.39 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.
VN Index opened in the red with 0.6 million shares traded .Trading was sluggish at the beginning as buyers were still cautious. However, buying interest in some blue chips including STB, SSI, HAG, REE, VIC inspired the bulls and buyers were more willing to bet higher. The buying power became strong from 9:30 and the VN Index gradually gained the positive ground. Strong performance of blue chips and heavy STB put-through deals were the catalysts to help VN Index close at the high of the day, well in the positive area.
Of note, 148.1 million STB shares were changed hands in the put-through deals today for VND 2,338.5 billion. Those shares were matched with REE and ANZ’s unwind volume registered recently. Among these deals, 103.256 million STB shares were changed hands at VND16,000 each while 42.139 million shares changed hands at the floor price of VND15,200 each; 2.5 million STB shares changed hands at the ceiling price VND16,800 each.
Blue chips were stronger than the market, heavy weights MSN gained, STB, VIC hit the ceiling while many other blue chips closed up: REE, SSI, CTG, VCB, MBB, FPT, HAG, DPM.
Market breadth was still negative. Among 307 listed firms on HOSE, losers outweighed gainers by 120-110 and 76 stocks unchanged and the rest untraded. As many as 36 stocks closed at the ceiling price and 41 fell to the floor.
Property shares were still weak , NTL, SJS, KBC, ITA, DXG, DIG were among losers. Market leading share SSI rebounded to post gain after hitting near the floor.
Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank or Sacombank (STB) was the most active stock today, with 3.5 million shares traded, closing at the ceiling of VND16.800.
Hoang Anh Gia Lai Corporation (HAG) ranked second with 0.9 million shares traded, closing up 2.9% to VND18,000.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) was in the third place with 0.8 million shares traded, closing up 2.4% to VND12,800.
Japan Vietnam Medical Instrument JSC. (JVC) ranked forth with 0.7 million shares traded, closing up 3.5% to VND17,800.
Na Ri Hamico Mineral JSC. (KSS) was in the fifth place with 0.6 million shares traded, closing down 4.9% to VND5,800.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX closed down 0.16 point or 0.28% to 55.27. Trading volume fell 1.4% to 22.3 million shares traded for VND158.6 billion of which 3.2 million shares worth VND39.76 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.
Market breadth was negative with 56 gainers, 149 losers and 188 flat issues.
VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) was the most active stock with 2.7 million shares changed hands, closing down 1.6% to VND6,000 on average.
Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) ranked second in the list with 2.2 million shares traded, closing up 1.4% to VND7,300 on average.
PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVX) came third with 1.4 million shares traded, closing down 1.5% to VND6,400 on average.
