The benchmark VN Index lost 4.21 points, or 1.23% to end at 336.73. Volume soared 41% to 29.1 million shares worth VND420.4 billion, including 9.3 million shares worth of VND169.79 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.
VN Index opened in the red with 0.65 million shares traded .Trading was sluggish, buyers were cautious while sellers lost control, selling aggressively, floor actions were popular. Market went deeper into the negative ground before paring some loss at the close.
Market breadth was broadly negative. Among 307 listed firms on HOSE, losers outweighed gainers by 178-68 and 60 stocks unchanged and the rest untraded. As many as 20 stocks closed at the ceiling price and 64 fell to the floor.
Property shares were weak, NTL, SJS fell to the floor while ITA, ITC could not make any impressive performance.
Market leading issue, SSI fell to the floor today while many stocks in PV group were dumped at the lowest prices: PGC, PTL, PVF, PVT, PXS are some examples.
Bank shares were stronger than the market, CTG still posted solid gain with support from foreigners, EIB also closed in the positive territory, STB resumed rally while VCB was loser.
Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank or Sacombank (STB) remained the most active stock today, resuming its 52 week high price VND16,000 after gaining 1.3% with 3.1 million shares traded.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) ranked second with 1.3 million shares traded, closing down 4.6% to VND12,500.
Japan Vietnam Medical Instrument JSC. (JVC) was in the third place with 0.9 million shares traded, closing up 3.6% to VND17,200.
Tan Tao Investment – Industry Corporation (ITA) ranked forth with 0.7 million shares traded, closing up 1.5% to VND6,600.
Ninh Van Bay Travel Real Estate JSC (NVT) was in the fifth place with 0.7 million shares traded, closing down 5% to VND1,900.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX closed down 0.46 point or 0.82% to 55.43. Trading volume rose 11% to 22.6 million shares traded for VND171.3 billion of which 2.6 million shares worth VND36.1 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.
Market breadth was negative with 58 gainers, 288 losers and 47 flat issues of which 19 hit the ceiling and 71 fell to the floor.
Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) was the most active stock with 3.3 million shares changed hands, closing down 4% to VND7,200 on average.
VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) ranked second in the list with 3.2 million shares traded, closing down 6.2% to VND6,100 on average.
PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVX) came third with 1.4 million shares traded, closing unchanged at VND6,500 on average.
Brokers started to talk about possibility of a rebound next week after recent plunge, however, no one dear to predict where will the Index bottom.
