The benchmark VN Index gained 10.77 points, or 2.96% to end at 373.43, the biggest percentage gain since June 2, 2011. Volume rose 27.3% to 23 million shares worth VND335.7 billion, including 3.4 million shares worth of VND82.2 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.
VN Index opened in the green with 0.4 million shares traded .Trading was still sluggish as a part of year-end sentiment. However, buying into heavy weighs and blue chips kept the market heat, and then, inpired into to others. Buyers were more willing to pay higher and massive buying push the market to close at the high of the day.
The bulls have had 9th gaining days with a total run of 36.7 points or 10.9%, an impressive performance after 2011 bittery loss.
Ceiling performance was popular today from heavy weighs to pennies.
Broker share SSI closed at the ceiling after a reluctant performance during the trading day while broker SBS hit the ceiling for 8th day. Property stock SJS, however, stayed at the neutral line.
Market breadth was broadly positive. Among 306 listed firms on HOSE, gainers outweighed losers by 207–35 and 45 stocks unchanged and the rest untraded. As many as 103 stocks closed at the ceiling price and 14 fell to the floor. All top 10 market caps gained, of which five hit the ceiling.
Japan Vietnam Medical Instrument JSC. (JVC) was the most active stock today, with 1.46 million shares traded, closing up 0.6% to VND17,100.
Binh Thuan Hamico Mineral JSC (KSA) ranked second with 1.1 million shares traded, closing up 4.8% to VND4,400.
Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank or Sacombank (STB) was in the third place with 0.9 million shares traded, closing up 0.6% to VND18,000.
Tan Tao Investment – Industry Corporation (ITA) ranked forth with 0.9 million shares traded, closing at the ceiling of VND7000 while broker Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) also hit the ceiling at VND14,400.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX closed up 1.19 points or 2.08% to 58.41. Trading volume soared 45.4% to 20 million shares traded for VND137.9 billion of which 2 million shares worth VND24.4 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.
Market breadth was positive with 198 gainers, 37 losers and 40 flat issues of which 86 hit the ceiling and 12 fell to the floor, 7% each side.
PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVX) was the most active stock with 1.8 million shares changed hands, closing up 4.6% to VND6,900 on average.
Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) ranked second in the list with 1.6 million shares traded, closing up 4.8% to VND8,800 on average.
VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) came third with 1.3 million shares traded, closing up 6.4% to VND6,700 on average.
