The benchmark VN Index gained 3.8 points, or 1.06% to end at 362.66. Volume fell 23.7% to 18.1 million shares worth VND346.9 billion, including 3.8 million shares worth of VND62.6 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.
VN Index opened in the green with 1.1 million shares traded .Trading was still sluggish as a part of year-end sentiment. However, buying into heavy weighs and blue chips buoyed the market, and VN Index moved north gradually throughout the trading session and ended at the high of the day.
Heavy weighs BVH continued to hit ceiling while others MSN, VIC, CTG, VCB, DPM, STB were among gainers that supported the market. Of note, foreigners picked up bank stocks actively, they bought 86,540 CTG shares out of the total 135,260 shares traded, 56,000 EIB shares out of 294,260 shares traded and 54,330 VCB shares out of 106,100 shares traded.
Broker share SSI closed 1 line higher than the neutral one while broker SBS hit the ceiling for 7th day. Property stocks DIC, DIG, ITA, KBC were all gainers but NTL, SJS were losers.
Market breadth was positive. Among 306 listed firms on HOSE, gainers outweighed losers by 143-94 and 69 stocks unchanged and the rest untraded. As many as 59 stocks closed at the ceiling price and 32 fell to the floor.
Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank or Sacombank (STB) was the most active stock today, with 0.8 million shares traded, closing up 1.1% to VND17,900.
Na Ri Hamico Mineral JSC. (KSS) ranked second with 0.7 million shares traded, closing up 3.5% to VND6,000.
Hoang Quan Consulting – Trading – Service Real Estate Corporation (HQC) was in the third place with 0.6 million shares traded, closing down 4.7% to VND4,100.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX closed up 0.67 point or 1.17% to 57.22. Trading volume fell 21.9% to 15.1 million shares traded for VND128.1 billion of which 3.6 million shares worth VND46.4 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.
Market breadth was positive with 149 gainers, 188 losers and 56 flat issues of which 64 hit the ceiling and 26 fell to the floor, 7% each side.
VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) was the most active stock with 1.7 million shares changed hands, closing down 3.1% to VND6,300 on average.
Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) ranked second in the list with 0.8 million shares traded, closing flat at VND8,400 on average.
PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVX) came third with 0.5 million shares traded, closing flat at VND6,600 on average.
