Go-Viet officially launched

Go-Viet, an on-demand multi-service platform supported by Indonesia’s Go-Jek, marked its official launch in Vietnam at an event on September 12 in Hanoi, attended by Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Vietnam’s Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The.

The official launch also was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Phuong Nga, Chairman of the Office of the President Dao Viet Trung, Indonesian Minister of Communications and Information Technology Rudiantara, Indonesian Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, and Indonesian Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.

People in Hanoi will now be able to access two-wheel ride-hailing services from Go-Bike as well as courier services from Go-Send. Go-Viet is now present in two major cities in Vietnam, having commenced limited operations in Ho Chi Minh City six weeks ago.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Nguyen Vu Duc, Go-Viet’s Co-Founder and CEO, said the people of Vietnam have responded positively to Go-Viet. “They have shown such enthusiasm for our services since we began operations in Ho Chi Minh City a few weeks ago,” he said. “During that time, the app has been downloaded 1.5 million times despite the fact that it was not yet fully operational or officially launched. Now that we are in Hanoi too, we believe we’ll see even more success as more people enjoy the services we offer.”

Mr. Duc also noted that not only does Go-Viet offer excellent services for Vietnamese people it also provides valuable access to additional income for driver partners in Vietnam, with around 25,000 driver partners joining the platform to date.

Go-Viet is the first of Go-Jek’s international operations to launch and its arrival means the world-class technology on which Go-Jek is based is now available to millions of Vietnamese people. “Go-Jek supports us with its world-class technology, while our local founding management team uses its in-depth understanding of what Vietnamese consumers and driver partners need most, to decide how that technology can be used to greatest effect,” said Mr. Duc.

Mr. Nadiem Makarim, CEO and Founder of Go-Jek, told the launch that Go-Jek is proud to share its uniquely Indonesian technology and to see people in other countries benefit from it through increased efficiency in urban mobility and, most importantly, through improved overall welfare. “We are so excited about what the future might hold for us in Vietnam, not least because the management team at Go-Viet shares our determination, passion and enthusiasm for using technology to create a positive impact on society,” Mr. Makarim said. “The success we have seen so far proves that Vietnam is in need of more safe, reliable and convenient services. Consumers need more choice and the market needs more competition to allow the industry to grow sustainably.”

He also expressed his gratitude towards the Vietnamese Government as well as the people of Vietnam, who made Go-Viet possible and welcomed it so warmly. “We would also like to thank the Government of Indonesia for its continued support, which has allowed us to reach beyond Indonesia to support people internationally,” he added.

Go-Viet’s launch marks the start of Go-Jek’s planned international rollout, with further operations in Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines also in the pipeline. Go-Viet expects to introduce additional services such as Go-Car, a car ride-hailing service, Go-Food, for quick food delivery, and Go-Pay, its e-money service.
