The benchmark VN Index gained 8.45 points, or 2.1% to end at 409.53 today. Volume rose 20.48% to 44.6 million shares worth VND638.7 billion, including 2.96 million shares worth of VND59.08 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.
VN Index opened in the green with 1.5 million shares traded. Trading pace was still slow at the beginning as investors were cautious, however, buying interest into blue chips inspired more investors to enter, market went up gradually. Profit taking actions were seen also but not strong enough to discourage buyers, VN Index closed at the high of the day. Ceiling actions were popular.
Blue chips BVH, CTG, SJS, DPM, HPG, ITA, MBB, SSI, REE, VCB, STB, KBC, HAG, PVF, VNM were all gainers.
Newly introduced VN30 rose 11.67 points or 2.6% to 460.98 today. Out of the 30 members, 28 gained, 2 unchanged. Volume rose to 20.4 million worth of VND376.75 billion.
Market breadth was positive, among 306 listed firms on HOSE, gainers outweighed losers by almost 4-to-1.
Of note, foreigners were very active today when they bought 7,980,990 shares worth of VND166.47
billion, heavily into brokers and banks: SSI, STB, and VCB.
The Hochiminh Stock Exchange’s confirmation of introducing afternoon trading session from Feb 20 pushed market sentiment, macro headlines did not give any special information.
Top active shares were dominated by the names of banks. Eximbank (EIB) kept the most active position with 4 3.4 million units, closing up 3.2% to VND16,300.
Sacombank (STB) was the second most active one with 3 million shares traded, closing up 4.7% to VND20,100.
Military bank (MBB) took the third place with 2.5 million, rallying 4% to settle at VND13,100.
Largest listed stock broker Saigon Securities Inc (SSI), ranked forth on a trade of 2.2 million units, ending up % 3.8% to end VND16,300
Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) was in the fifth most active with 1.9 million shares traded, closing up 4.4% to VND14,100.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index added 1.21 points, or 1.94%, to end at 63.74.
The market volume was up 7% from a day earlier to 41.5 million shares and the value rose 12.6% to VND369.75 billion.
Market breadth was positive, 193 rallied, 71 tumbled, 49 closed unmoved, and 80 were untraded.
Kim Long Securities (KLS) was the most active on the measure with nearly 4 million shares changed hands, rallying 3.3% to end at VND9,400.
PetroVietnam Construction (PVX) came second on a trade of 3.8 million units, closing up 4.8% to VND8,800 per share.
VNDirect Securities (VND) ranked third with 3.1 million shares traded, closing up 2.5% to VND8,200.
Foreigners actively bought KLS, VCG, and some shares in Petro-group such as PVS, PGS, PVX.
