The benchmark VN Index lost 1.73 points, or 0.47% to end at 365.67. Volume rose 24.5% to 46.5 million shares worth VND746.8 billion including 25.1 million shares worth VND468.5 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.
We saw 6.6 million STB shares changed hands at VND14,500 each; 3.9 million ITA shares changed hands at VND7,500 each; 2.86 million LCG shares changed hands at VND9,500 each; 4.58 million SAM shares changed hands at VND5,200 each, higher than the ceiling of VND5,000 on today trade, and 1.85 million VIC shares changed hands at VND95,000 each.
VN Index opened in the red with 0.65 million shares traded as caution rose. Selling pressure rose soon after the opening bell. However, there were attempts to pare the loss, buyers were active from 9:10 to 9:21, but after that sellers took aggressive actions. Market closed off the low but market sentiment was weak.
Market breadth was negative. Among 307 listed firms on HOSE, losers outweighed gainers by 176-56 and 54 stocks unchanged and the rest untraded. As many as 19 stocks hit ceiling while 82 issues fell to the floor, 5% each side.
Among top 10 market caps, 4 rose (VNM, STB, MSN and VIC), 3 fell ( VCB, CTG, HAG) and 3 unchanged (BVH, EIB, and VPL).
Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank or Sacombank (STB) became the most active stock on the bourse today with 1.4 million shares traded, closing up 0.7% to VND14,800.
Vietnam Export Import Commercial Joint Stock Bank (EIB) ranked second with 1.3 million shares traded, closing unchanged at VND13,600.
Sacom Development and Investment Corporation (SAM) was in the third place with 1.2 million shares traded, closing down 4% to VND4,800.
Ocean Group JSC. (OGC) ranked forth with 1 million shares traded, closing down 3.3% to VND8,700.
Japan Vietnam Medical Instrument JSC. (JVC) was in the fifth place with 0.8 million shares traded, closing up 1% to VND19,400.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX closed down 0.86 point or 1.43% to 59.33. Trading volume rose 7% to 28.5 million shares traded for VND242.8 billion of which 4.4 million shares worth VND47.5 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.
Market breadth was negative with 72 gainers, 183 losers and 40 flat issues and 98 untraded. Among top 10 market caps, 1 gained, 9 fell.
All active stocks VND, KLS, PVX, VCG, SHN were losers.
VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) was the most active stock with 3 million shares changed hands, closing down 4.4% to VND8,600.
Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) ranked second in the list with 2.7 million shares traded, closing down 3.2% to VND9,100 on average.
PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVX) came third with 1.6 million shares traded, closing dơn 3.8% to VND7,600 on average.
