Dec 12: Vietnam Stocks Sink To 31 Month Low on Pessimism

The benchmark VN Index lost 1.86 points, or 0.49% to end at 375.3. Volume rose 18.8% to 37.7 million shares worth VND560.9 billion including 12.7 million shares worth VND229.6 billion changed hands in the put-through deals.

Put-through deals were active again, we saw 3.6 million STB shares changed hands, 4.1 million HAG changed hands and 1.3 million SJS traded in the arranged deals today.

VN Index opened in the red with 0.9 million shares traded. Market traded in caution, sellers lost control first and accepted to sell shares at a discount. Thought the market pared some loss in the last 15 minutes of ATC session, the market sentiment was still weak.

Market breadth was negative among 306 listed firms on HOSE, losers outweighed gainers by 146-84 and 53 stocks unchanged and the rest untraded. As many as 26 stocks hit ceiling while 59 issues fell to the floor, 5% each side.

Among top 10 market caps, 3 rose (STB, EIB, and VIC), 5 fell ( MSN, VCB, VPL, CTG, and VNM) and 2 unchanged (HAG, BVH).

In separate stocks, market leading hot issue, securities stock SSI, continued to post loss though the trading range today was narrow.

Meanwhile STB bucked the market trend, hitting the ceiling with nearly 3.3 million shares changed hands in the cash market, becoming the most active stock on the bourse today.

Becamex Infrastructure Development JSC. (IJC) was second most active stock with 1.2 million shares trade, closing  down 2.1% to VND9,300.

Tan Tao Investment – Industry Corporation (ITA) was in the third place with 1 million shares traded, closing up 4% to VND7,300.

Bac Giang Exploitable Mineral JSC. (BGM) ranked forth with 1 million shares traded, closing down 5% to  VND5,700.

Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) was in the fifth place with 0.8 million shares traded, closing unchanged at VND11,600.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX closed down 0.37 point or 0.59% to 61.36. Trading volume edged up 0.4% to 26.2 million shares traded for VND224.9 billion of which 2.3 million shares worth VND25.97 billion were changed hands in put-through deals.

Market breadth was negative with 66 gainers, 149 losers and 62 flat issues and 116 untraded. Among top 10 market caps, 2 gained, 4 unchanged and 4 lost.

Of note, share prices of Orient Securities Corporation (ORS) continued to fall VND100 to VND2,100/share while share prices of Thai Hoa Viet Nam Group JSC (THV) closed at the floor of VND4,000 with 1.6 million shares traded.

High liquid and speculative shares KLS, VND, PVX, VCG, SHN were all losers.

Kim Long Securities JSC (KLS) was the most active stock with 2.4 million shares changed hands, closing down 2.0% to VND9,900.

VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) ranked second in the list with 2 million shares traded, closing down 2% to VND10,000 on average.

Thai Hoa Viet Nam Group JSC (THV) came third with 1.6 million shares traded, closing down 7% to VND4,000 on average.
