Local officials mentioned the target at an April 4 working session with a delegation from the Ministry of Industry and Trade led by Minister Tran Tuan Anh.
In order to achieve the target, provincial officials called upon the Government to accelerate investment into multi-purpose railway and expressway projects aimed at increasing linkages between Dak Nong and other Central Highlands provinces as well as others throughout the southern region.
The province is asking the government for in-principle approval to upgrading the provincial-level Dak Per border gate into an international one, with the hope of improving infrastructure in border areas and giving a boost to border trading as well.
Minister Anh said the ministry pledges to aid the province in carrying out its socio-economic goals, particularly those aimed at providing a boost to the development of local bauxite industry, spurring sustainable growth of the energy sector, and improving competitive edge.
The minister highly valued the implementation of Dak Nong’s key projects, including bauxite and aluminum projects, although many shortcomings still remain over relevant legal documents and policies.
He went on to say that the ministry will work closely with the province for the purpose of backing the implementaion of its socio-economic development goals.
Statistics from the provincial authorities show that last year Dak Nong’s industrial production index posted a year on year rise of 15 per cent while the value of industrial production touched roughly VND9 trillion (US$391 million).
The output of aluminum, one of Dak Nong’s key staples, reached 650,000 tons in 2018 while its electricity generation amounted to 1,500 million kWh.
During the first quarter of 2019, the locality’s industrial production saw a growth rate of 8.2 per cent on year. Its exports raked in some US$48 million in value.
