Cai Mep International Terminal runners up in performance evaluation of Asia’s container ports

The French shipping company CMA CGM Group, one of the world’s largest shipping company and member of the Ocean Alliance has announced the performance evaluation of Asia’s 22 container ports in 2018. 

The evaluation includes four criteria with five degrees, including berth productivity, waiting time for pilot, waiting time for berths and time for ships to wait at ports before and after cargo handling. 

The CMIT has been highly evaluated at the first three criteria and ranked second after Xiamen Terminal. 

Every week, the CMIT welcomes 13 trains heading directly to the East and West coasts of the US, two to the Europe and five to Asia. 

Tan Cang – Cai Mep International Terminal Co., Ltd is a joint venture among Saigon Newport Corporation, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (Japan), Wan Hai Lines (Chinese Taipei) and Hanjin Transportation (the Republic of Korea). 

The Investment Certificate was granted for TCIT by the Vietnamese Government in September 2009, with the capital investment about US$100 million, equivalent to around VND 2,000 billion.

Being a deep-water port located near Cai Mep – Thi Vai river T-junction, 18 nautical miles away from Vung Tau pilot station, TCIT can provide high level of convenience for transshipment cargoes to Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Long An and vice versa. 

The channel depth is minus 14 meters, water draft at berth could reach minus 16.8 meters, turning basin has a diameter of 600 meters, thus suitable for serving large container vessels up to 160,000 DWT (approximately 14,000 Teus).
