Earlier on January 1, 2018, the directorate had established an inspection team to review backups of toll collection data at tollgates.
The team inspected the tollgates last November as part of a project to upgrade the Phap Van-Cau Gie Road in Hanoi City, which is managed and operated by BOT Phap Van-Cau Gie JSC.
Based on the findings of the inspection, the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam asked the firm to promptly complete its data backups.
However, a report by the Road Management Department 1 on May 13 showed that the firm has yet to fulfill the task as regulated.
As such, the directorate has ordered the firm to stop collecting toll fees at BOT Phap Van tollgate from June 10 until the data backup process is completed.
Pham Van Khoi, general director of BOT Phao Van-Cau Gie JSC, told VnEconomy that the data backups were done at the BOT Phap Van station.
The station had earlier backed up images and videos over a 45-day period and fee collection data for one year, Khoi said, adding that the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam had asked for an upgrade and increased the period for backing up image data to one year and fee collection data to five years.
The representative asserted that the firm would complete the upgrade work on June 6, so the operations of the tollgate will not be suspended.
The project to upgrade the Phap Van-Cau Gie Road under the BOT format with a total investment of some VND6.3 trillion was carried out in two phases.
In its first phase, the road was upgraded into a standard expressway with four lanes and a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour. The first phase of the project was put into service in October 2015.
In the second phase, the expressway was upgraded and widened to have six lanes. The second phase of the project has also been completed.
