The benchmark VN Index added 0.66 point or 0.14% to 466.38. Volume fell steeply to 46.6 million shares worth of VND700 billion. Put-through trading contributed 4 million shares worth VND100 billion.
The market breadth was flat on the primary bourse where 129 stocks advanced, 128 tumbled, 53 closed unchanged of which 39 hit the ceiling, 23 limited down.
The VN30 Index added 1.68 points, or 0.31%, to 535.42.
The market opened in the green with 5 million shares changed hands as bargain hunters came back. The market went up quickly in the first 15 continuous trading session and hit the high at 9:30 before paring the gain as profit takers sold into the high. The trading pace was slow overall as both buyers and sellers were more cautious. Heat was still seen in some selective stocks but the broader market was more quite.
SAM was the most active stock with 1.8 million shares, resuming its ceiling performance today. MBB came second in volume with 1.7 million shares traded, closing 1 price line up, VNE limited up after earnings forecast released, 1.7 million shares traded, taking third position in volume.
Securities shares were solid gainers, banking shares were mixed, CTG, STB fell, VCB, EIB stayed at the neutral line, MBB up.
Property stocks were gainers in general, DIC, DIG, NTL, SJS, HAG, ITA, ITC were among gainers. Rubber shares were solid gainers.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX index gained 0.11 point or 0.14% to 77.86. Trading volume eased to 31 million shares worth VND334.54 billion.
The market breadth was negative on the northern exchange. Among index members, 98 rallied, 212 tumbled, 86 closed unmoved of which 25 limited up, 23 limited down.
SCR was the top active player with 2.8 million shares changed hands, closing at the ceiling level, PVS came second with 2.3 million shares traded, closing 1 price line up and HBB took the third position with 2 million shares traded, closing up at VND6,800 each.
