April 19: Vietnam Stocks Post Biggest Loss in 2 Weeks on Profit Taking

The benchmark VN Index lost 5.08 points or 1.07% to 467.08. Volume rose  to 144.5 million shares worth of VND2.35 trillion.  Put-through trading contributed 24.6 million shares worth VND669.7 billion.

We saw another 20.4 million STB shares changed hands at the price of VN26,300 each, versus the market close price of VND25,200 each.

In the past 3 days, more than 60 million STB have been changed hands at prices from VND25,000 each or higher.

The retreat trimmed the year-to-date gains to nearly 33% versus a loss of 28.5% last year.

The market breadth was negative on the primary bourse where 78 stocks advanced, 188 tumbled, 44 closed unchanged, and 9 stocks were untraded.

The VN30 Index – a free float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – slid 7.92 points, or 1.46%, to 533.68. Amongst its 30 members, 4 stocks rallied, 25 declined and one was unmoved.

Na Ri Hamico Mineral Joint Stock Company (KSS), the most active stock on a trade of 6.3 million shares, rose 4.08% to end at VND10,200.

Sacom Development and Investment Corporation (SAM) coming second in liquidity with 4.6 million shares changed hands, sank 4.55% to settle at VND8,400.

Vietnam Mechanization Electrification & Construction Joint Stock Company (MCG) rallied 3.9% to settle at VND8,000 on a trade of 4.4 million units – the third most active.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX index  lost 1.83 points or 2.31% to 77.5, once more, the index failed to confirm 80 threshold break out. Trading volume eased to 100.4 million shares worth VND102 trillion.

The market breadth was negative on the northern exchange. Among index members, 81 rallied, 212 tumbled, 54 closed unmoved, and 49 were untraded.

Hanoi-based lender Habubank (HBB), the most active on the measure with 9.7 million shares changed hands, dipped 2.9% to settle at VND6,700.

PetroVietnam Construction (PVX), coming second in liquidity on a trade of 6.5 million units, plunged 5.04% to end at VND11,300 per share.

Kim Long Securities (VND) tumbled 3.88% to finish at VND12,400 on a trade of 5.3 million shares – the third most active.
