The benchmark VN Index lost 0.68 point or 0.14% to 472.16. Volume rose 21.5% to 143.5 million shares worth of VND2.5 trillion. Put-through trading contributed 23.8 million shares worth VND664.1 billion.
We saw another 20 million STB shares changed hands at the price of VN25,000 each, versus the market close price of VND25,100 each.
VN30 was weaker than the broader market, posting a loss of 2.53 points or 0.46% to close at 541.16. Volume rose to 27.95 million shares changed hands for VND802.5 billion.
Market opened the morning session in the green with 8 million shares changed hands. Then, the selling pressure rose as market entered continuous order bidding session, paring the early gain. However, buying interest was firm to keep the market heat, and closed the morning session off the high but still higher than the open.
The market resumed the afternoon session with higher selling pressure, the sellers were decisive but not aggressive, most of the offers were at high prices. However, it was still strong enough to push the index down at the close, and the lowest level of the day.
The market breadth was neutral on the primary bourse where 136 stocks advanced, 135 fell, 33 closed unchanged of which 72 hit the ceiling , 33 limited down.
Securities stocks were mixed, SSI, HCM fell while SBS, AGR gained, BSI hit the ceiling.
Property shares were mixed NTL hit the ceiling, TDH, KBC continued to gain while SJS, QCG limited down, DIG, DIC, ITA, ITC fell.
Mineral and rubber stocks continued to be strong, most closed at the ceiling prices.
Banking stocks were split, CTG, MBB, EIB, VCB closed down, STB bucked trend to close up.
The most active stock today was SAM with7.3 million shares changed hands, this showed that another 3.6 million SAM shares were changed hands in the afternoon session. The share prices pared gain, easing from the ceiling to near the flat line.
MBB and EIB came second and third in volume with 5.6 and 4.3 million shares, respectively, both ended down.
MCG suddenly saw its volume up to 3.5 million shares, ranking forth most active.
Blue chips were sold BVH, DPM, CTG, EIB, FPT, HAG, HPG, MBB, REE, VCB, PVD, SSI were all losers. Bucking the trend was PVF but it gained only 1 price line today after falling in the previous session.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX index lost 0.58 point or 0.73% to 79.33, once more, the index failed to confirm 80 threshold break out. Trading volume rose9.4% to 115.93 million shares worth VND1.27 trillion.
The market breadth was still negative on the northern exchange with 138 stocks up, 185 stocks down 73 closed unmoved of which 59 hit the ceiling while 27 limited down.
Hanoi Building Commercial Joint Stock Bank (HBB) regained its most active position with 11.7 million shares traded closing down at VND6,900 each.
PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVX) came second with 8 million shares, closing down at VND11,900 each.
VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) ranked third with nearly 7 million shares traded, closing at the neutral line with impressive aggressive demand minutes before the market close.
