April 12: Vietnam Stocks Extend Gain, Liquidity Soars

The benchmark VN Index gained 6.52 points or 1.42% to 465.26. Volume rose 7.1% to 106.5 million shares worth of VND1.76 trillion. Put-through trading contributed 9.1 million shares worth VND234.1 billion.

We saw 4.7 million EIB shares changed hand s at VN17,700 each, much lower than market close price of VND18,400 each.

Other big put-through deal was 0.97 million KDC shares changed hands at the flat line, and 0.6 million CTI  shares changed hands at the ceiling price of VND15,800 each.

VN30 was still stronger than the broader market, adding 9.56 points or 1.83% to close at 537.28. Volume rose to 35.2 million shares changed hands for VND811 billion.

Market opened the morning session in the green with 7.4 million shares changed hands. Trading was more active buyers were aggressive after the open, but then, sellers took advantage of the rally to cash out,  volume increased much as both buyers and sellers tried to convince the market, profit taking pressure was real but could not defeat buying energy. VN Index closed the day off the high but still higher than the open and order-matching sessions.

The market breadth was positive on the primary bourse where 186 stocks advanced, 67 fell, 57 closed unchanged of which 90 limited up, 18 limited down.

Property shares continued to outperform, majority of these shares limited up.

Banking stocks made impressive performance today as all posted gain, STB hit the ceiling level. MBB was very active today with 10.2 million shares changed hands, closing just 2 lines behind the upper limit. VCB share prices broke up and set fresh 52 week high.

Securities stocks were weaker than the broader market SSI edged up, HCM stayed at the flat line, while  SBS fell to the floor on profit taking pressure with a heavy of 4.5 million shares changed hands of which over 1 million shares were offloaded at the ATC session. However, it should be noted that SSI has passed the threshold VND21,000.

HPG kept limiting up for a second straight day but REE retreated after the news that the company decided to sell 5 million treasury shares at VND16,500 each, still lower than today market close of VND16,800.

EIB, OGC, SSI were among most active stocks with solid gains.

On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX added 1.03 points, or 1.33%, to end at 78.54. Trading volume rose to121.8 million shares worth VND1.19 trillion.

The market breadth was positive on the northern exchange with 191 stocks up,  152 stocks down 53 closed unmoved of which 63 limited up, 19 limited down.

Hanoi-based lender Habubank (HBB), the most active on the measure with 26.6 million shares changed hands, closed up at VND7,400.

PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Corporation (PVX) coming second in liquidity on a trade of 8.9 million units, closing down at VND11,900 per share, the lowest price in the day.

VNDIRECT Securities Corporation (VND) was the third most active stock with 7.1 million shares changed hands, closing down at VND12,600 each.
