The benchmark VN Index gained 2.8 points or 0.62% to 453.53. Volume stood at 55.9 million shares worth of VND818.62 billion. Put-through trading contributed 1.65 million shares worth VND49.28 billion.
VN30 was still stronger than the broader market, adding 4.4 points or 0.85% to close at 520.04. Volume was 19 million shares changed hands for VND382.87 billion.
Market opened the morning session in the green with 3.6 million shares changed hands as buying interest from last week expanded. However, profit takers were also ready to sell at high prices. The index fluctuated before the buyers gathered enough steam to keep it green and higher at the morning close.
The market breadth was positive on the primary bourse where 140 stocks advanced, 101 tumbled, 68 closed unchanged.
Securities stocks were strong, HCM, SBS limited up at one time in the trading, but closed the morning session off the high. ,SSI posted gain but stood right at VND21,000/share threshold.
Property shares were mixed, DIC, DIG, DXG, NTL, ITA, ITC, KBC, SJS were gainers but HAG, KBC fell.
Banking stocks were also mixed, CTG, MBB fell, while EIB stayed at the neutral line, VCB, STB gained.
Heavy weighs BVH gained but VIC and BVH fell.
Buying into high beta stocks were still strong though the share prices were volatile today.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX lost 0.38 point, or 0.49%, to end at 75.9. Trading volume was 49.5 million shares worth VND478.1 billion.
The market breadth was negative on the northern exchange. Among index members, 128 rallied, 85 tumbled, 83 closed unmoved.
Hanoi-based lender Habubank (HBB), the most active on the measure with 4.8 million shares changed hands, closing down.
VNDirect Securities (VND) and KLS followed with 4.4 million shares and 3.4 million shares respectively, both closed down.
