Airlines raise surcharges

Jetstar Pacific has announced that the airline will change the calculation of fees for checked baggage based on the distance traveled by flights. The plan came into force on May 13.

Accordingly, passengers buying a luggage pass for 15 kilograms of weight on HCMC-Hanoi flights are now charged VND200,000 versus the previous VND160,000.

Another local low-cost carrier, Vietjet Air, has announced that fees to change the names of travelers on domestic flights will be raised to VND374,000 from the current VND340,000, starting June 1.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines, though it will not raise its surcharges, will offer promotional tickets for international flights from May 20. These air tickets, however, will exclude the free 20 kilograms of weight for checked baggage and will not allow refunds, cancelations or flight time changes.

As a result, due to these changes and higher fees, air passengers will see the prices of air tickets rise.
