33W26: Interbank rates diverge while USDVND softens further
August 18, 2026
During 33W26, the SBV returned to a net liquidity withdrawal via open market operations after two consecutive weeks of net injection, signaling that short-term funding pressures across the banking system have moderated. Interbank rates displayed mixed movements, with short-term tenors falling sharply while longer tenors edged slightly higher. On the FX front, the domestic USDVND rate decreased by 0.23% WoW to close at 26,144, diverging from the modest uptick in the U.S. dollar as cooling U.S. CPI and PPI data lowered September Fed rate hike expectations, while foreign investors maintained substantial net selling on the HoSE.
